Lydgate Farm may have been the highlight of our trip. Bhakti here, and when I asked Jagger his favorite thing we did in Hawaii, Lydgate topped the list! The tour is rather expensive, but for our nature enthusiast it was completely worth it. I have to say I learned a TON too! Lydgate produces some of the finest chocolate in the world, winning awards at the world chocolate competitions in Paris. Learning about the amazing fruits of the island included an opportunity to taste the raw cacao fruit right off the tree. The fruit tasted sweet and sour, like a sour candy. The seed inside tasted… well…earthy. That seed is fermented and transformed into the amazing chocolate we all know and love. On the tour you see the fruits of the island tasting many varieties and learned the best places to purchase them at a good (not tourism) price. We learned about both indigenous and invasive flora and fauna and at the end of the tour got to do a chocolate tasting to rival any wine tasting you’ve ever experienced. All in all, I would say this was an experience not to be missed!
