Torres de Serranos

One of our first historic outings took us to the Torres de Serranos.

According to Visit Valencia:

The medieval wall of Valencia
Started to be built in 1392 by Pere Balaguer,
Las Torres de Serranos were born as defenders of one of the most used accesses of old Valencia.
In 1865 the walls are demolished and are exempt.
From 1586 to 1887 they were used as a jail for nobles.
Subsequently, the rear of the Towers was discovered and from the Plaza de los Fueros you can see five rooms, with pointed arches and ribbed vaults.
Las Torres are a magnificent example of Gothic architecture.
The Serranos Towers were used both defensively and as a triumphal arch.
Currently, the most outstanding act that takes place at its feet is the Crida, a call made by the Fallera Mayor of Valencia on the last Sunday of February to invite Valencians and visitors, welcoming them to the Fallas festival. .
The choice of this emblematic place is none other than to symbolize the arrival of foreigners to Valencia centuries ago, along the path of the Serranos.

We walked though the Turia gardens to arrive at the wall and noticed preparations for Las Fallas de Valencia were already underway. Get excited for our future posts about this amazing festival that is best described as “Burning Man”… in Spain… with fewer rules LOL!

At the wall we climbed all the hundreds of steps to get a great view of the city and Jagger practiced his photography skills (See gallery below) it was a relaxed day of tourist activities as we got to know our new city even better.
